GLOCESTER, R.I. (WPRI) — Two Woonsocket residents have been charged after a toddler was exposed to fentanyl and cocaine.

Glocester police responded to the West Glocester Motor Inn on Sept. 2 for a reported landlord-tenant issue. During an investigation, they learned that management contacted police after finding narcotics inside the empty room.

Evidence indicated an 18-month-old was living in the room where drug activity was seen, police said. The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) was immediately notified.

Investigators found the toddler and guardian in Woonsocket. The child was then taken into protective custody and Hasbro Children’s Hospital, where a toxicology test confirmed the presence of cocaine and fentanyl exposure.

Police arrested Danielle Bennett and Jose Lopez, both 41, on one count each of Child Endangerment. Both suspects have prior drug-related offenses, police said.

Both were arraigned and released on $10,000 personal recognizance. They are due back in court in January.
