ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. (PIX11) — She’s helped countless students through emotional trauma and brightens everybody’s day at one Rockland middle school in New York.

Considered one of the most beloved staff members for four years straight and a four-legged wonder girl, Maybie is a Labrador retriever changing lives one paw at a time.

At Fieldstone Middle School in Rockland County, she is a special canine community champion. She licks your face, wags her tail, and loves to give kisses. But make no mistake — she’s on the job. Maybie patrols the hallways and acts like she owns the place.

A teacher had an idea: animals are the best therapy for the soul. Helping with mental health and so much more, she is truly a top dog for the job. That’s the magic of Maybie.

A recent event celebrated Canine Companions’ 50th anniversary and Maybie’s remarkable impact on the community.

Canine Companions is a national nonprofit that provides highly trained service dogs free of charge to individuals with disabilities and specialized needs. They are now teaming up with a nonprofit called Wonder Girls, helping to spread mental health awareness and love.

Maybie’s biggest fans are the students. She has office hours and her own office. Her only reward is love. NewsNation local affiliate PIX11 News honored her with a PIX11 Community Champion award.
