NTSB shares photos of debris, helicopter black box after deadly plane crash near DCA

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released more photos after an American Airlines plane and Black Hawk helicopter collided near Reagan National Airport (DCA) on Jan. 29, leaving 67 dead.

In one of the photos shared by the NTSB on Sunday, Feb. 2, crews are seen recovering aircraft wreckage from the Potomac River.

The other image shows the helicopter’s flight recorder, more commonly known as a black box, which crews recovered from the site Friday.

As of Sunday, 55 bodies have been recovered and positively identified from the crash, according to officials. Crews are expected to begin salvage operations on Monday, Feb. 3.
