NYC (WPIX) – A man accused of attempting to rape a woman in New York City on Tuesday was posing as an ICE agent, sources told NewsNation affiliate WPIX.

It happened in the lobby of a building in Brooklyn Heights, police said. A 51-year-old woman was approached by the suspect, who’s accused of forcing her into a basement stairwell, according to authorities.

The woman was then punched, police said. The man was accused of trying to rape her before stealing a chain, cellphone, and purse, according to authorities.

During the incident, the man allegedly posed as an ICE agent, sources said. He fled on foot from the scene, according to authorities. The woman has cuts on her face, and scratches and bruises on her body, police said. She was taken to the hospital by EMS.
