(NewsNation) — The fourth victim in Monday’s shooting at a Manhattan office building has been identified as Julia Hyman.
Hyman, 27, worked for Rudin Management after graduating from Cornell University’s Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Management.
Blackstone executive Wesley LePatner, NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, and security guard Aland Etienne were also killed in the attack near East 52 Street between Park and Lexington avenues.
Police started getting calls at 6:28 p.m. about an active shooter inside 345 Park Avenue.
The gunman, identified as Shane Tamura, 27, was seen on surveillance video getting out of a black BMW with a rifle in his hand. He walked into the 44-story building and immediately shot an officer, the NYPD said.
Tamura shot a woman who was trying to hide behind a pillar and kept firing, spraying bullets across the lobby. He walked toward the elevators and shot a guard behind the security desk. Another man was shot in the lobby but survived.
Tamura let a woman walk out of an elevator and into the lobby without injuring her. He then went up to the 33rd floor, Rudin Management’s office, and fired rounds as he walked through the room, killing another person on that floor.
He then went down a hallway and fatally shot himself in the chest, NYPD said.
“Pure evil came to the heart of our city and struck innocent people, and one of our police officers who was protecting those people,” Patrick Hendry, president of the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York, said at a news conference.
“We lost four people tonight, and our hero brother who gave his life for this city.”
Tamura drove to New York from Nevada, and cops found identification on his body, The Associated Press reported.
The building he attacked houses financial firms and the National Football League, among other companies.
The NYPD is leading the investigation with help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Shooter neutralized, says NYPD commissioner
According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, “the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”
Shooter shot himself; at least 3 in critical condition
According to NewsNation local affiliate WPIX, the shooter shot himself; his condition is currently unknown.
The NYPD officer who was shot was off-duty and working a paid security detail. He reportedly confronted the gunman in the lobby and is now in a critical condition.
Two others are in the hospital and in a critical condition.
Tenants of 345 Park Avenue
The active shooting occurred on the 32nd floor of the 345 Park Avenue building. Tenants in the building include the NFL and Blackstone.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams urges ‘safety precautions’
New York City Mayor Eric Adams quote-tweeted the NYPD advisory, saying, “New Yorkers: there is an active shooter investigation taking place in Midtown right now.
“Please take proper safety precautions if you are in vicinity and do not go outside if you are near Park Avenue and East 51st Street.”
NYPD urging citizens to stay away
“Due to police activity, please avoid the vicinity of East 52 Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue. Expect emergency vehicles & delays in the surrounding area,” a statement from NYPD News said on X.
