HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) — Dauphin County now has its very own Liberty Bell.
It’s part of the Bells Across PA initiative, which is placing Liberty Bells in each county to ring in America’s 250th anniversary celebration. Today, the new bell was unveiled at Hershey’s Chocolate World.
Each bell is decorated by a Pennsylvanian artist.
“We are really highlighting our PA artists and that creativity,” said Cassandra Coleman, executive director of America250PA. “Each one of these unique designs tells a story about a community.”
Artist Hawk Krall painted the bell, known as the “Discover Dauphin Bell,” to tell the story of Milton and Catherine Hershey’s legacy in the region. The Hershey Company sponsored the large fiberglass bell.
It also features Harrisburg’s Broad Street Market and Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat.
“The history, which visually isn’t always the most interesting, it’s cool to mix that with the Hershey characters and bright colors,” Krall said. “I thought it was just very fun to do.”
