Kettering Health facilities suffer outage due to ‘cyberattack’

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A cyberattack has caused several issues for patients and employees at Kettering Health facilities in the area.

Kettering Health confirmed the attack Tuesday morning, saying that the outage is a result of unauthorized access to their network.

“Earlier this morning, Kettering Health experienced a system-wide technology outage that now has been determined to be a cyberattack. We are working with a third-party organization to quickly address this attack and restore our systems.”

The call center is experiencing an outage as well.

According to the organization, the system-wide outage is not impacting physician office visits, but medical centers are experiencing obstacles. These facilities are enacting procedures to continue care for patients.

Elective inpatient and outpatient procedures are canceled for the day. Scheduled procedures will be rescheduled for a later date. Patients can expect a call from their care team.

“We understand that this is frustrating for our patients and concerning for those who have family members in our care. We have procedures and plans in place for these types of situations so we can continue to provide safe, high-quality care for patients currently in our facilities despite the disruption we’re experiencing,” Kettering Health said in the statement.

Elective procedures are being rescheduled at this time; however, emergency rooms and clinics remain open to see patients.

According to Miamisburg’s Communications Manager, Ken Jarosik, the Miami Valley Fire District (MVFD) is currently only transferring patients to Premier Health Network locations until further notice. MVFD services both Miamisburg and Miami Twp.
