NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A woman was arrested Monday morning after she allegedly tried to drive through a federal building in New Bedford.

Jennifer Judith Padilla, 26, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, destruction of property, and attempted arson.

Police said Padilla was carrying an American flag and a container of gasoline when officers arrived. She allegedly poured gasoline on the flag and tried to set it on fire.

After security intervened, Padilla got into her car and attempted to drive through the building’s front doors, according to police.

One security officer was hit but not injured, police said. The building sustained minor damage.
