BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A 3-year-old boy who was dropped off at a New York hospital Sunday morning has died, according to the New York City Police Department.
The child was left at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn at around 11:30 a.m. by two unidentified individuals who fled in a vehicle, hospital staff told responding officers.
The child was unconscious and unresponsive and had bruising around his body, police said.
Staff inside the emergency room were shaken by what had happened.
“I heard that some lady bringing in a baby, lifeless,” a hospital staffer told NewsNation local affiliate PIX11 News. “And when they tried to get more, asked what happened, she just left. She just took off. She had a car parked, waiting for her. And they just left.”
Police were checking surveillance cameras and interviewing staff inside the hospital throughout the day. Investigations are ongoing.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of the child’s death.
