Two children found dead inside New Jersey home: Police

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (PIX11) – A mother was charged with murder after her two children were found dead inside a New Jersey home on Tuesday, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Naomi Elkins, 27, was also charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Lakewood police responded to the Shenandoah Drive home around 4:50 p.m. First responders were trying to save two children, aged 1 and 3, when officers arrived, according to authorities.

Both toddlers were pronounced dead at the scene. It was discovered that the 1-year-old child was stabbed, and both the 1-year-old and the 3-year-old were drowned, prosecutors said.

Elkins was taken into custody at the home, according to prosecutors.

Authorities have not confirmed the names of the children.
