Trump, Hegseth announce new fighter jets

(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the Air Force will be moving forward with a sixth-generation fighter jet called the F-47.

The pair announced the new jet in the Oval Office following meetings. The contract to build the jets has been awarded to Boeing.

“The F-47 will be the most advanced, most capable, most lethal aircraft ever built,” Trump said.

Boeing and Lockheed Martin were the two companies competing for the contract and had reportedly finished their designs in 2024. Former Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall was ready to announce the contract in December 2024 but delayed to give the incoming administration time to review it.

“It sends a very direct, clear message to our allies that we’re not going anywhere,” Hegseth said.

He called the plane the “next generation of air dominance” and the president touted the capabilities of the fighter.

According to Trump. the F-47 has state-of-the-art stealth technology, top speeds and can fly with drones.
