CHICAGO — Police are searching for answers on Tuesday morning after a woman was severely burned after she was set on fire during a fight on a Chicago train overnight.

According to Chicago police, the attack unfolded on a Blue Line train as it approached the Clark and Lake CTA stop in the Loop, just before 9:30 p.m.

Officers said the victim, a 26-year-old woman, was on the train when she got into an argument with a man.

Police said the argument eventually became physical when the man poured a liquid onto the woman and set it on fire.

After the train eventually came to a stop, the perpetrator fled the scene, while the victim exited the train and fell to the ground.

Officers said the fire had been extinguished by the time fire crews arrived on the scene, but the victim suffered severe burns to her body and face.

The victim was later hospitalized in critical condition.

Currently, it is unclear what sparked the altercation, and officers say the man allegedly responsible is believed to be a male of around 45 years of age.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Central Investigations Arson Detectives at 312-746-7618 or dial 911.
