(NewsNation) — The executive director of a Nebraska public housing authority is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars for personal use.
According to News From The States, Krystal Freeseman — the former executive director of Rushville Housing Authority in Sheridan County — is being audited after tips about alleged misconduct.
Freeseman is accused of purloining $31,016 by the Nebraska state auditing team. State auditor Mike Foley said Freeseman repaid around $13,000 in February before her dismissal.
“One cannot rob a bank on Monday and, when caught, partially repay the bank on Tuesday and expect no consequences,” Foley said Monday.
Among the multiple accusations against Freeseman, it is alleged she used $2,612 of agency funds for the purchase of, and installation, of carpet in her home.
A rental charge for her son’s college dorm room, providing false information which resulted in almost $10,000 immitted in wages on tax and wage statements across multiple years are some of the other findings from the state audit.
