KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — Two people were rescued early Sunday morning after getting lost in a Missouri cave system approximately 2,000 to 2,500 feet underground, the Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) said.
According to KCFD, a 30-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman called the fire department for a “confined space rescue” just after 4 a.m. Sunday.
Reports said the man and woman entered the caves off Coal Mine Road at about 11 p.m. Saturday and later became disoriented, unable to find their way out.
They continued through the caves and found a spot with enough signal to call 911, allowing crews to find them.
The rescue division then used ropes and descended approximately 2,000 to 2,500 feet into the cave system where they found the two people.
KCFD said the man and woman were unharmed and refused medical treatment.
