Good Samaritan shot while attempting to stop Chicago carjacking

CHICAGO — A Good Samaritan is in critical condition after being shot while attempting to stop a carjacking on the city’s West Side.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. Monday in the 1500 block of North Linder. Police said a woman was approached by four men who battered her and took her 2011 Volkswagen sedan.

According to police, a 20-year-old man attempted to intervene when an offender fired shots and struck the man in the chest.

He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. The woman was not injured.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this time.

No one is in custody. Area Five Detectives are investigating.
