Elevated bacteria levels closes some northeast Wisconsin beaches

(WFRV) – Several beaches in northeast Wisconsin are closed due to a report of elevated bacteria levels.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources beach closings and advisories map, the following beaches are closed, meaning E. coli levels exceed 1,000 CFU/100 ml, indicating a more serious risk of illness:

  • Lakeside Park Beach
  • Blue Rail Marina Beach
  • Village Of Butte Des Morts Boat Landing

The following beaches have an advisory, meaning the water quality criterion of 235 colony-forming units (CFU) of E. coli/100 ml of water is exceeded:

  • Black Wolf Boat Landing
  • Lakefront Park Beach
  • Red Arrow Park Beach Manitowoc
  • Point Beach State Forest – Concession Stand Beach
  • Point Beach State Forest – Lakeshore Picnic Area Beach
  • Point Beach State Forest – Lighthouse Picnic Area Beach
  • Otumba Park Beach
