24-year-old woman ID’d after deadly crash involving school bus in Will County

WILL COUNTY, Ill. — A 24-year-old woman was identified Friday following a head-on deadly crash Thursday morning in Will County involving a sedan and school bus.

The crash happened in the 13100 block of Manhattan Monee Road at around 8:20 a.m. near the intersection of Manhattan Monee Road and Kankakee Road.

It involved a sedan and a District 114 school bus. The bus, which had a driver and 10 students on board, sustained front-end damage.

According to the Illinois State Police, the sedan and the school bus collided head-on.

The identity of the driver was identified as Makenna Maurisak, 24, of Manhattan. She was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

Manhattan Monee road, between Schoolhouse and Cedar, was closed for several hours as authorities investigated.

Ten students, along with the bus driver, were transported to an area hospital in good condition to be evaluated. They were released from the hospital Thursday afternoon.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.
