MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A fire started in a store after suspects threw fireworks behind the counter, Memphis Police said.

At 1:06 a.m., officers responded to a vandalism in the 600 block of Chelsea Ave.

The complainant told officers that he was checking customers out when he felt something bounce off his shirt and hit the floor.

He said shortly after that, fireworks exploded and started a fire behind the counter.

An employee at Exxon shared the following video of the fireworks going off:

No injuries were reported.

Officers said that surveillance video showed two suspects coming into the business and pacing by the door.

One of the suspects stood outside as the lookout, and the other suspect threw fireworks behind the counter.

Both suspects ran away from the business in an unknown vehicle and direction.

“I think they probably should have hung around and apologized or something,” a resident said. “And it’s an accident, things happen.”
