(NewsNation) — A Milwaukee County judge was arrested Friday and is being charged with felony counts of obstruction for allegedly helping an immigrant without documents avoid arrest after he appeared in her courtroom.
Federal authorities arrested Hannah Dugan, 65, at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. She is being charged one count of obstruction and one of concealing an individual.
FBI Director Kash Patel posted about the arrest on X but later deleted the post. In his post, Patel said Dugan “intentionally misdirected” agents away from someone who was in the country illegally.
Attorney General Pam Bondi later confirmed the arrest on X.
The defendant Dugan is accused of assisting has not been officially named, but there are reports he is Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, a Mexican immigrant facing three misdemeanor battery counts who was in Dugan’s courtroom on Apr. 18.
He is currently listed as being in Immigration and Customs Enforcement Custody.
Flores-Ruiz’s charges stemmed from a fight between two roommates, and he does not appear to have any other federal or state charges.
Some local administrations have vowed to go after cities and states with sanctuary policies that prevent local authorities from assisting in deportation efforts.
