CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Several Charlotte schools held coordinated walkouts on Tuesday as students protested recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity.

At East Mecklenburg High School, the demonstration was moved to Tuesday morning after discussions between faculty and district representatives. Organizers agreed the safest plan was to gather on the school’s track, where the walkout began around 8:30 a.m.

Students dressed in black and encouraged parents, faculty, and staff to support the protest. Their goal was to show unity and offer symbolic protection for classmates of immigrant descent.

Later that morning, a separate walkout happened at Northwest School of the Arts. A senior there said that students would gather in the back parking lot around 10 a.m. to demonstrate against ICE activity and highlight its impact on Charlotte families.
