McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — A Mexican man must serve over four years in U.S. prison for illegally reentering the United States, a judge in Brownsville ruled.

Alfredo Balderas-Rivera, 42, of Aldamas, in the Mexican border state of Tamaulipas, has been sentenced to 50 months in federal prison after he admitted he violated his supervised release for again illegally reentering the United States, U.S. Attorney Nicholas Ganjei said Wednesday.

Authorities say he crossed into Cameron County, near Brownsville, Texas, on March 30, 2024. He had first been convicted of illegally entering the United States and was removed in 2016, 2018 and again in 2023, Ganjei said.

Balderas-Rivera had been in custody for allegedly committing fraud and assault bodily injury. Authorities say he will remain in custody and now be transferred to a federal prison.
