SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — The city of Tijuana is actively playing cupid, recruiting couples who want to get married on Valentine’s Day.
So far, 485 couples have registered for a mass wedding planned for Feb. 14 at City Hall.
Odalys Valenzuela Espinoza, registrar with the city, says they are looking for many more who want to tie the knot on that day.
Registration ends Jan. 30.
“We have available space to anyone who wants to join, this is for everyone and anyone who wants to participate,” Valenzuela Espinoza said. “There are many benefits to this including legal and judicial status, proper licenses will be handed out that ensure all rights enjoyed by married people.”

There is no cost to participating.
Couples are urged to bring their birth certificates, proof of identification and the Mexican equivalent of social security numbers.
According to Valenzuela Espinoza, there is no age limit, sexual orientation or gender required, and no prenuptial is necessary.
“The goal is to have at least 1,000 couples participate in the ceremony, which will be officiated by Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz.”
The event will take place at 8 a.m.
Valenzuela Espinoza said another mass wedding is planned for June exclusively for LGBTQ+ couples.
