US offers $5M reward for capture of Sinaloa cartel leader ‘El Ruso’

(NewsNation) — The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs announced Tuesday a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of a Sinaloa cartel leader.

Juan José Ponce Félix, also known as “Jesús Alexandro Sanchez Félix” and “El Ruso,” violated U.S. narcotics laws, according to the State Department.

Per the FBI, Juan José Ponce Félix, also known as “Jesús Alexandro Sanchez Félix” and “El Ruso,” is the founder and leader of Los Rusos, the main wing of La Mayiza, a powerful faction of the Sinaloa cartel.

La Mayiza, co-founded and led by Ismael Zambada García, known as “El Mayo”, oversees the production and smuggling of fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, heroin and methamphetamine from northwest Mexico into the U.S.

Ponce Félix has been indicted multiple times in California over the past decade on drug trafficking, racketeering, firearms, and money laundering charges, according to the State Department.
