(NewsNation) — A total of 10 men arrested at a farm in Mexico with connection to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel were found guilty of murder and kidnapping on Monday, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The men were arrested following a shootout with police and National Guard officers last September. Inside the farm, police found one person dead and freed two others who had been held captive.

Located in the Mexican state of Jalisco, the Izaguirre or “ranch of horror,” as some locals call it, allegedly served as a training and recruitment center for the cartel.

The Guerreros Buscadores collective, a group dedicated to locating missing relatives, reported finding hundreds of personal items, including shoes and possible charred human remains at the farm. The attorney general’s office said it found no evidence of mass killings but confirmed the ranch was used for criminal training.

Survivors of the ranch said recruits were lured under false pretenses, trained in weapons and fitness, and tortured and killed if they disobeyed.

The 10 men were sentenced to 141 years and three months in prison at a hearing this morning.
