(NewsNation) — A Border Patrol agent in Texas was arrested last week for alleged human smuggling, the District Attorney in Cameron County said.

Jail records show Jorge Alonso is charged with smuggling and criminal conspiracy.

Alonso encouraged and coached an undocumented immigrant to cross a port of entry using false claims, including a fraudulent U.S. birth certificate, a news release from the Cameron County DA said.

Authorities said that Alonso’s goal was to establish a basis for further unlawful crossings based on the birth certificate. Jail records show Alonso’s case is pending arraignment.
