(NewsNation) — An abducted child has been returned from Mexico following an ICE Homeland Security Investigation.
The agency announced the return of the 3-year-old child in a press release Wednesday, noting that the child was flown back to the U.S. on Oct. 4 and has since been reunited with their father. According to the agency, Haley Harris, the mother, abducted the child from Alabama before crossing the border into Mexico.
During the investigation, ICE agents discovered that while Harris was in possession of the child, she had been in contact with her boyfriend, Pedro Pedraza-Trejo. According to the agency, Pedraza-Trejo is in the country illegally and is facing a series of charges of child molestation and rape.
The agency attributes Harris’ arrest and the return of the child to coordinated efforts between officials in the U.S. and Mexico. Officials say the investigation remains ongoing.
