EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — The White House says it has once broken the record for fewest migrants encountered by U.S. Border Patrol agents in a month.

According to the Department of Homeland Security news release, Border Patrol apprehensions fell to 8,039 in June, down from 10,362 in May and the previous record low of 8,193 in April.

“The numbers don’t lie,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said. “Under President Trump’s leadership, DHS and CBP have shattered records and delivered the most secure border in American history.”

Nationwide, U.S. Customs and Border Protection — the Border Patrol’s parent agency — recorded 25,243 encounters, which is also an all-time low for the Trump administration. The previous record of 28,617 was set in February.

Along the Southwest border, Border Patrol apprehensions fell to a record low of 6,070.

DHS noted that last year, border agents on the Southwest border encountered more than 7,000 people during the first two days of June, adding that agents apprehended only 137 this Saturday, “the lowest single-day total in a quarter of a century.”

“The world is hearing our message: the border is closed to law breakers,” Noem said. “Under President Trump, our Border Patrol agents are empowered to do their job once again, secure our border and protect the American people.”
