(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump said Friday he will ask the Department of Justice to investigate convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein‘s alleged ties with former President Bill Clinton and several other prominent Democratic figures.
The president’s request comes after Democrats released a small batch of never-before-seen emails that raise questions about Trump’s knowledge of Epstein’s conduct of sex trafficking underage girls.
Trump said he’s asking Attorney General Pam Bondi and the FBI to look into potential connections between Epstein and Clinton, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, LinkedIn founder and Democratic donor Reid Hoffman and JPMorgan Chase.
“This is another Russia, Russia, Russia Scam, with all arrows pointing to the Democrats. Records show that these men, and many others, spent large portions of their life with Epstein, and on his ‘Island,’” Trump wrote on social media. “Stay tuned!!!”
No credible evidence has emerged indicating that any of those individuals were involved in Epstein’s sex trafficking.
“Epstein was a Democrat, and he is the Democrat’s problem, not the Republican’s problem!” Trump wrote in another post. “They all know about him, don’t waste your time with Trump. I have a Country to run!”
An email released Wednesday by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee shows Epstein telling an associate in 2011 that Clinton “never” visited his private island.
JPMorgan, which did business with Epstein for years, told Reuters it regrets “any association we had with the man, but did not help him commit his heinous acts.” The bank severed ties with Epstein years before his 2019 federal arrest.
JPMorgan paid $290 million in 2023 to Epstein victims to settle accusations that it overlooked warnings and red flags because Epstein was a valuable client. The settlement did not include an admission of wrongdoing.
Trump and Epstein were acquaintances in the 1990s and early 2000s. Trump says he cut ties before Epstein’s 2008 conviction and has repeatedly denied knowing about Epstein’s abuse or sex trafficking.
