Slain mother’s belongings found by dumpster diver

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A surprising development was made just days after the shooting deaths of Charity Beallis and her two children by a dumpster diver.

On Tuesday, NewsNation affiliate KNWA learned that items belonging to Beallis, including a necklace and photos, were found, thrown away in a dumpster in Fort Smith.

This discovery was certainly a red flag for investigators.

Photos of the items above were found in a large black trash bag by a dumpster diver on Dec. 6. Beallis and her two killed were found fatally shot in their Bonanza home on Dec. 3.

The woman who found the items told KNWA that after pulling the bag out and going through the items the following morning, she was shocked to see photos of the Beallis family, a receipt with Beallis’ Bonanza address and a necklace with the names of Beallis’ children on it.

She told KNWA that she immediately called the police. The woman said two detectives with the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office and an officer with the Fort Smith Police Department met with her. She gave them the items and took them to the dumpster, where this discovery was made.

The items were found at The Reserve at Chaffee Crossing on Chad Colley Boulevard. The dumpsters are located on their own side road on the south side of the apartment complex.

Warner spoke with Beallis’ adult son, John Powell, who said he met with this woman at his attorney’s office, and she shared the same story with them.

Powell said when he last met with a detective on the case, he brought up the bag of belongings in the dumpster. He said the detective replied with, “How did you find out?”

KNWA reached out to the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, and they said they cannot confirm or deny that this happened.
