(NewsNation) — If you find yourself facing additional security screenings at the airport, maybe check for sweat stains.

No, seriously.

The Transportation Security Administration says sweat can negatively impact the agency’s imaging technology.

“Added moisture from a person’s body can alter the density of clothing, so it is possible perspiration may cause our Advanced Imaging Technology machines to alarm,” a TSA spokesperson told CNN. “If this occurs, the passenger may need to undergo additional screening, such as a pat-down in the area of the body where the [machine is] alarmed, to ensure there is no threat.”

If you’re looking to stay a little cooler during your next airport adventure, gone are the days of fumbling with your shoes at security.

As of July, travelers racing to catch a flight at U.S. airports no longer are required to remove their shoes, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Noem said the end of the ritual put in place almost 20 years ago was immediately effective nationwide. She said a pilot program showed the Transportation Security Administration had the equipment needed to keep airports and aircraft safe while allowing people to keep their shoes on.
