ASHLAND COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) — The lone victim of a deadly plane crash Monday evening in Ohio has been identified.

The small plane, which took off from Burke Lakefront in Ashland County, was reportedly found near Township Road in Jackson Township around 7:20 p.m., Ashland County Sheriff Kurt Schneider confirmed to NewsNation affiliate WJW.

An overnight news release from the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the pilot as Gary Wolfelt, 72, of West Lafayette, Indiana.

The wreckage of the Express 2000 FT was discovered in a wooded area. Wolfelt was the only person onboard the aircraft, according to authorities.

Severe storms came through much of Northeast Ohio on Monday afternoon and evening, but it’s not clear if the weather played a role in the crash.
