(NewsNation) — The National Archives released new records related to unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), more commonly known as UFOs, on Friday.
The agency announced the news on X. The records can be found on the agency’s website, though it is not immediately clear which records are new and which have previously been released.
Interest in the topic has soared after whistleblower David Grusch came forward in 2023 with claims the Pentagon has been operating a secret UAP retrieval program. He even suggested the government had recovered biological remains of nonhuman entities.
His claims sparked a Congressional hearing on UAP encounters. Following the hearing, a bipartisan group of lawmakers began pushing for more transparency on the subject.
Others have come forward to support Grusch’s claims, including former Pentagon official Luis Elizondo and retired Navy Rear Adm. Timothy Gallaudet.
The Pentagon has denied any such program exists, although it did admit to the existence of plans for a program known as Kona Blue, which would have reverse-engineered recovered UAP technology. The program was never spun up because no such technology was ever found.
The All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) within the Pentagon released a report stating that most UAP sightings could be attributed to common objects, including weather balloons.
While AARO did note that some sightings need additional investigation, the government has stressed that there is no evidence UAPs are extraterrestrial in nature.
