(NewsNation) — Nine months after being stuck in space after a Boeing test flight, NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore shared the takeaway lesson he learned from the ordeal.
“I can tell you honestly my feeling on all of this goes back to my faith. It’s bound in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Wilmore told CBS News before the return journey. “He is working out his plan and his purposes for his glory throughout all of humanity, and how that plays into our lives is significant and important. And however that plays out, I am content because I understand that. I understand that he’s at work in all things.”
NASA astronauts return after months in orbit
Wilmore and Suni Williams, as well as two other NASA astronauts, left the International Space Station and returned safely to Earth last week in a SpaceX capsule. Millions watched as they splashed down in Florida.
Wilmore and Williams spent 286 days in space — 278 days longer than anticipated.
According to NASA, Wilmore is a veteran of three spaceflights and has accumulated a total of 464 days in space. Williams is a veteran of three space missions: Expeditions 14/15, 32/33 and 71/72.
