(NewsNation) — The Trump administration has announced plans to construct a ballroom in the White House, according to an announcement Thursday.

The “White House State Ballroom” will be used to host large gatherings with “substantially more guests than currently allowed.”

The $200 million, 90,000-square-foot project will have a 650-person seated capacity and allow for the Trump administration to “host major functions honoring world leaders and other countries without having to install a large and unsightly tent approximately 100 yards away from the main building entrance.”

During a press conference on Thursday, President Trump said the ballroom “will be beautiful, top of the line.”

The site of the ballroom will be where the East Wing currently is, and the design will match the rest of the White House.

Trump added it will not interfere with the current building and “will be great legacy project and I think it will be special. I think it will be really beautiful.”

Construction on the project will begin in September 2025 and is expected to be completed before President Donald Trump’s term ends.

“The President and the Trump White House are fully committed to working with the appropriate organizations to preserving the special history of the White House while building a beautiful ballroom that can be enjoyed by future Administrations and generations of Americans to come,” White House chief of staff Susie Wiles said.
