(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump should tap someone to come forward and reassure Americans who have jitters about the economy, political commentator Bill O’Reilly says.

The president’s decisions to impose tariffs on trade partners has roiled financial markets in recent days, although U.S. stock indexes somewhat stabilized Wednesday amid an encouraging inflation report.

“People are starting to panic — the stock market and all that,” O’Reilly said on “CUOMO” Wednesday. “If I were President Trump, I’d have a calming presence to come out and explain exactly why the president is doing what he’s doing. Because most people don’t understand tariffs.”

Trump is not the one for that task, he added.

“Donald Trump is not in the calm-down business. He’s never been in the calm-down business,” O’Reilly said, laughing.
