(NewsNation) — President Trump has rebuked California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s criticism of the administration’s handling of protests against ICE in Los Angeles County.

Trump took to Truth Social following comments from Newsom on X, where the governor said, “the federal government is sowing chaos.”

In a Truth Social post on Saturday night, the president wrote: “If Governor Gavin Newscum, of California, and Mayor Karen Bass, of Los Angeles, can’t do their jobs, which everyone knows they can’t, then the Federal Government will step in and solve the problem, RIOTS & LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!!!”

A release from the White House revealed that President Trump signed a Presidential Memorandum deploying 2,000 National Guardsmen.

“The Trump Administration has a zero tolerance policy for criminal behavior and violence, especially when that violence is aimed at law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in the statement.

“These criminals will be arrested and swiftly brought to justice. The Commander-in-Chief will ensure the laws of the United States are executed fully and completely.”

Newsom took aim at the move in his posts to X.

“That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions,” he wrote. “… This is the wrong mission and will erode public trust.”

Newsom added that the state was deploying the California Highway Patrol “to keep the peace.” He said the Trump administration’s deployment of the National Guard was “purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.”

In a lengthy post to X, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass condemned those who were not peacefully protesting.

“… Let me be clear: violence and destruction are unacceptable, and those responsible will be held accountable,” she said.
