(NewsNation) — The on-again, off-again bromance between President Trump and Elon Musk appears to be on again.

On Sunday, the Tesla CEO posted a picture on his social media platform, X, showing him seated at a table with Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, and saying the three had a “lovely dinner” the previous evening. The Trumps were at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, over the weekend.

“2026 is going to be amazing!” Musk said.

The social occasion comes more than three months after the pair was seen talking at the September memorial service of political activist Charlie Kirk in Arizona.

“Elon’s great,” Trump told NewsNation’s Libbey Dean on Sunday when asked about the Mar-a-Lago dinner. “I say about Elon: He’s 80% super genius and 20% he makes mistakes. But he’s a good guy. He’s a well-meaning person.”

It was a different story over the summer, when the world’s most powerful man (Trump) and the world’s richest man (Musk) had an explosive and public falling out.

Musk backed Trump in the 2024 presidential election and later served as an advisor to the White House on government efficiency. Ultimately, he and the Republican president disagreed on the merits of a Trump-backed spending bill.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, a longtime Trump friend, sounded doubtful last year when asked whether the president and Musk could mend fences.

“He’s going to forgive Elon,” Lutnick said of Trump. “Will he forget? No.”
