Trump administration plans to promote economy in new tour

(NewsNation) — President Trump is preparing to hit the road for a cross-country economic tour focused on affordability.

A White House official tells NewsNation that the president was always going to do this ahead of the midterms. News of this tour comes as the Trump administration doubles down on its claim of economic success in response to growing backlash over tariffs and the recently ended government shutdown.

Some of the likely highlight points include Trump’s recently proposed $2,000 tariff dividend for most Americans, a plan to lower the price of groceries and the promise of lower prescription drugs prices for popular drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy. POLITICO reports the Trump administration is also in the “early ideation phase” of an alternative to the Affordable Care Act, which will end in 2025.

“We want a health care system where we pay the money to the people instead of the insurance companies,” Trump said this week. “I tell you, we are going to be working on that very hard.”

An October poll conducted by the Washington Post, ABC News and Ipsos found a majority of Americans are spending more on groceries and gas. Meanwhile, The Hill reports Democrats are working to identify other key areas of life with rising costs to challenge Republicans on in 2026.

“It’s not about electric power, it’s about economic power. I think we have to reframe it as a cost-of-living issue,” Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom said of climate change at a recent press conference.
