(NewsNation) — The Trump administration has declared four European antifa groups as terrorist organizations.

In a press release, the State Department designated Germany’s Antifa Ost, Italy’s Informal Anarchist Federation/International Revolutionary Front and Greece’s Armed Proletarian Justice and Revolutionary Class Self-Defense as “Specially Designated Global Terrorists.”

Per The Associated Press, none of the four groups operates in the United States.

All four groups will also be designated as “Foreign Terrorist Organizations,” effective Nov.20.

According to the State Department, such a categorization denies the groups and persons within them access to the U.S. financial system.

“All property and property interests of designated individuals or groups that are in the United States or that are in possession or control of a U.S. person are blocked,” the release said.

“U.S. persons are generally prohibited from conducting business with sanctioned persons. It is also a crime to knowingly provide material support or resources to those designated, or to attempt or conspire to do so.”

The designation follows a NewsNation investigation that supported a report stating antifascists in the United States were confronting volunteers and disrupting encampment cleanup efforts in Seattle.
