Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.), one of the Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump after the 2021 Capitol riot, announced Wednesday that he would not seek reelection next year.

“I am announcing today that I will not seek reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives,” Newhouse wrote in a statement posted on X.

“Serving the Fourth District of Washington has been the honor of my life, and this decision comes with no reservations or remorse, only gratitude for the tremendous opportunity to have represented my home state in Congress,” he added.

Newhouse has served in Congress since 2015. His district encompasses central Washington.

Newhouse gained national attention in 2021 after he became one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump following the Jan. 6 attack; Trump was later acquitted in the Senate.

The Washington Republican proved a formidable candidate, overcoming two Trump-backed challengers in 2022 and 2024 during the district’s primary.

He is only one of two pro-impeachment House Republicans to still serve in Congress; Rep. David Valadao (R-Calif.) also remains in the House.

Newhouse’s district went for Trump by close to 21 points, according to The Downballot. Washington holds open primaries, with the top two vote-getters advancing to the general election regardless of party.
