WASHINGTON (Reuters) — Republican U.S. Senator David Perdue conceded his Georgia Senate race to Democratic rival Jon Ossoff on Friday after a pair of victories in runoff elections handed control of the U.S. Senate to Democrats.

“I want to congratulate the Democratic Party and my opponent for this runoff win,” Perdue said in a statement. Two U.S. Senate seats were up for grabs in Wednesday’s runoffs.
