NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani doubled down on his stance on Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Speaking in New York City on Thursday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem accused Mamdani of protecting violent criminals.
“I’m not sure what she’s actually referring to in that statement,” Mamdani told PIX11 News. “What I’ve been doing is standing up for each and every New Yorker across this city.”
Noem called on New York City to reconsider its stance on sanctuary policies. Mamdani refused to change his stance on the NYPD participating in immigration enforcement.
“My NYPD will follow the law here in New York City,” Mamdani said. “And the law as we have it with our sanctuary city policies … does not allow [for] civil enforcement or the assistance of a federal administration’s attempt to fulfill its pledge to create the single largest deportation force in American history.”
In New York City, many have taken to the streets to protest after an ICE agent fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis.
“These ICE raids, they are cruel and inhumane,” he said.
