(NewsNation) — After President Trump announced Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was captured Saturday, attention has turned to where Maduro will be held as he awaits trial.
Maduro and his wife are currently in U.S. custody. The Venezuelan president is expected to appear in the Southern District of New York court on Monday, facing multiple narcoterrorism, drug and weapons charges.
“Maduro and his wife will soon face the full might of American justice and stand trial on American soil,” Trump said. “Now, Maduro will never again be able to threaten an American citizen or anybody from Venezuela.”
According to reports, the Venezuelan president has been placed in the same facility where Sean “Diddy” Combs was held both before and throughout the trial: Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

What is Metropolitian Detention Center?
Metropolitan Detention Center is the only federal jail in New York City.
The facility, described as “hell on earth,” has also been home to several high-profile inmates, including R. Kelly, Ghislaine Maxwell and cryptocurrency fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried.
Detainees have long complained about rampant violence, dreadful conditions, severe staffing shortages and the widespread smuggling of drugs and other contraband, some of it facilitated by employees.
In recent years, its conditions have been so stark that some judges have refused to send people there.
MDC Brooklyn has also come under fire for its response to debilitating infrastructure breakdowns and the COVID-19 pandemic.
