(NewsNation) — In a reversal, President Donald Trump said Sunday he wants House Republicans to vote to release all files related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
“We have nothing to hide,” Trump wrote on social media.
The post followed an online back-and-forth with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., whom he has called a “traitor” over the files. Greene has fiercely called on the Republican Party to release the files.
Last week, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released never-before-seen emails from Epstein’s estate. Shortly after, Republican lawmakers released tens of thousands of additional documents.
Trump’s reversal could indicate the House has enough votes to pass legislation leading to the full release of the files.
“I DON’T CARE!” Trump wrote in his social media post. “All I do care about is that Republicans get BACK ON POINT.”
Trump’s association with Epstein is well established, though the president has never been accused of wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.
The legislation would force the Justice Department to release all files and communications related to Epstein, as well as any information about the investigation into his death in federal prison. Information about Epstein’s accusers or ongoing federal investigations would be redacted.
