(NewsNation) — Vice President Kamala Harris has her eyes on Michigan as she and former president Donald Trump blitz swing states in the final stretch of the 2024 campaign cycle.

The race is poised for a tossup in six states, Decision Desk HQ data suggests. Michigan — part of a so-called blue wall along with Wisconsin and Pennsylvania — could be especially important.

The midwestern state is home to 15 electoral votes and has favored Democrats in every presidential election from 1992 to 2012.

Trump, however, led the state by 0.2%, in 2016, contributing to the Electoral College victory that carried him to the White House.

Decision Desk HQ models as of Monday predict Harris has a 57% chance of winning the key state.

How has Michigan voted in previous elections?

Nov. 5 will mark Trump’s third presidential election as the GOP nominee.

The presidential race was close in both of his previous bids in 2016 and 2020. Trump garnered 47.5% of Michigan votes and narrowly defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016, who claimed 47.3% of votes.

President Joe Biden flipped the script in 2020 and defeated Trump by about 150,000 votes.

Key Michigan counties

Washtenaw County is home to the University of Michigan just west of Detroit in Anabor, where Harris is campaigning Monday. The Harris campaign has invested significant time and money visiting college campuses to energize younger voters.

Washtenaw County voters overwhelmingly favored Democratic presidential candidates in the 2016 and 2020 elections.

Wayne County, where Detroit is located, also encompasses Dearborn. The city of about 110,000 people is home to the country’s largest Arab American population.

Most voters in Wayne County also favored Biden and Clinton in the previous two presidential elections.
