NewsNation is investigating the disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer. June marks 14 years since Lauren never returned home after a night out with friends. Lauren’s family, who have been mostly quiet over the years, are speaking out in a rare post online. Lauren’s mom says not knowing is unbearable, adding that what you don’t know can devastate you. Fourteen years since her daughter vanished, she hopes to give Lauren the peace she deserves.

“Missing with Marni Hughes” on NewsNation has covered Lauren’s disappearance several times in the “Missing” series, including a new book released last year detailing the mystery and theories about the case. The book, “College Girl, Missing: The True Story of how a Young Woman Disappeared in Plain Sight,” came out in 2024. This week, Marni Hughes spoke with author Shawn Cohen, a reporter who worked with Lauren’s family and a private investigator about Lauren’s disappearance.
