Two days ahead of the 9/11 anniversary, Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs Committee released a report critical of the Biden administration’s handling of the 2021 U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan. Retired Lt. Gen. Richard Newton, a NewsNation senior national security contributor, says there have been “plenty of lessons learned,” starting with former President Donald Trump’s negotiations with the Taliban in 2020. Newton believes both political parties are responsible for what he calls “one of the worst policy decisions in the 21st century.”
