MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are investigating after a man’s body was discovered at an abandoned garage in Tennessee on Sunday.

The family of Robert Grove, who has been missing for nearly a week, fears it may be him.

When NewsNation affiliate WREG arrived, police were not on the scene, but Grove’s family and friends were at the location.

“We appreciate everybody who came out here looked, and I know it’s a close area where we all have been up and walking up and down the street. We’ve all been in this area,” his sister, Racquel Jackson, shared. “I don’t want nobody to beat themselves up for not finding him.”

She thanked friends, family and the Memphis community who spent the last week looking for her brother after his Chevrolet Avalanche was found covered in blood last Monday at an apartment complex.

“He’s a good guy, he sells cars and works at Lucky Grain Market, he got a one-year-old daughter that lives with him and my mom, and when he didn’t come to take my mom to work at 10 o’clock this morning or to get his daughter, we knew something was wrong because that’s very out of character for him,” she said.

Officers said they found a man’s body just before 1 p.m. on Sunday. Jackson said she believes the body found is her brother.

“Right now, it’s no longer a missing person. They didn’t want to confirm, because they want us to come down and see everything and make sure,” she said. “It is a homicide case, so they let us know that it probably is him.”

Grove’s family planned to identify the body Monday, but they still had questions.

“Just finding out who and why, the most important question is why? Why would you do it him? Who did it?” Jackson asked. “We just don’t know.”

She said she believes her brother was targeted. She said she’s now seeking justice and offered a message to the person responsible.

“You will be found. MPD is on the job. You will be found,” Jackson said. “I have faith in the Memphis Police Department. I do.”

Officials have not confirmed to WREG if the body found was Grove’s.
