UPDATE: Police on July 5 announced the discovery of a decomposed body but did not immediately identify the remains.
(NewsNation) — Authorities continue to search for a 51-year-old New York man who disappeared early June 25 while on vacation with his wife in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Manhattan resident Brian Tarrence had arrived June 22 with his spouse at the British Overseas Territory and was scheduled to leave June 29. The pair was staying at an Airbnb on the island of Providenciales when he left without explanation while carrying his phone and wallet, media reports say.
Surveillance video from the early morning shows Tarrence walking by himself in what is considered a safe area, a private investigator for the family says.
“We have him on camera, and he walks into town, and then he basically disappears, and we haven’t heard from him since,” the investigator, Carl DeFazio, said.
Tarrence and his wife had been enjoying a normal vacation. DeFazio said the day before his disappearance, the couple went on a boat ride and went to dinner.
The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force has launched a missing persons investigation.
