UPDATE: Utah woman, 35, missing in California found safe 3 weeks after vanishing
(NewsNation) — Authorities in California are searching for a woman who has been missing for nearly a week, citing concerns that “foul play may be involved” in her disappearance.
Danielle Staley was last seen on Nov. 6 around 11:23 p.m. near Rio Del Mar State Beach, about 10 miles west of Santa Cruz. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Staley is from Utah and “may be at risk.” Local TV station KSBW reports that Staley had arrived on the Central Coast with a friend just before or after Halloween and was staying in a camper van near the beach in Aptos, California.

“With any type of missing person and especially under these circumstances, which is unusual, we’re not ruling out foul play, we’re not saying that there is foul play, but we’re definitely not ruling it out at this point,” Zach West, a spokesman for the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, told KSBW.
Authorities say Staley’s personal items, including her phone, were found at the beach bonfire and that she has not been in contact with her family. While Staley is not believed to have gone into the ocean, the sheriff’s office has flown drones along the coastline.
The sheriff’s office describes Staley as being 5’6″ and 120 lbs with blonde hair. Anyone with security cameras near Beach Drive, Rio Del Mar Boulevard, The Esplanade, or any nearby streets is being asked to share their surveillance footage with the sheriff’s office.
According to KSBW, Staley’s travel companion is cooperating with the investigation.
